While many have held their own gimmick, most have stuck close to the default formula, or strayed so far from it to be basically unrecognisable. The set-up seems so simple at first compared to other MOBAs. Take a hero from a select group of heroes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and send them out onto the map in a group of five, so that they can battle another group of five to destroy the enemy core. It is almost identical to the standard MOBA set-up, so what does Heroes of the Storm, developed and published by Blizzard, do differently? It does it right. From the start, things are fairly straightforward. The player is provided with a tutorial, and then set out upon a map with three lanes, trying to push their own lines deep into enemy territory, as minions constantly spawn.
However, that is where things start to change drastically. The game features four distinct playstyles in the form of warrior big bruisers who can stay in a lane for a prolonged period of time; A. DPS , and support people who offer aid to other champions, but aren’t that strong on their own; A. Then there is the forth class known as specialists, which are heroes that tend to excel at one or two things, but are weak at others.

The garden terror’s massive health pool forces the opposing team to take it down before it wreaks havoc upon their bases. Furthermore, controlling the garden terror can lead to an interesting minigame of keep-away in the early stages of the game, as you sprint to drop the vines in every lane you can manage before your empowered state runs out or your terror is killed. In another map, The Haunted Mines, the secondary objective sends players underground, off the main area of the map to collect skulls that empower their team’s massive grave golem.
The power of each team’s golem depends on the number of the available skulls they are able to acquire.

Heroes of the Storm also takes a more simplified and accessible approach to the genre that bucks MOBA trends by implementing a streamlined talent system and team-shared experience. While staying in lane soaking up experience is important, there were plenty of times where moving around the map to help teammates was an equally useful play. Each of its 14 maps is built around a unique mechanic that moves the fight from the lanes to a special objective that becomes the focal point of every game.
Each battleground offers something special in both aesthetic and play style, which keeps things feeling fresh even after having played over a hundred hours. The design of these battlegrounds is largely well thought out.

In that sense, Halo Wars 2 is the de facto king of real-time strategy games on consoles, where the venerable genre is underrepresented because of the challenges of managing a lot of units at once on a gamepad. Like its predecessor, Halo Wars 2 does a reasonably good job of overcoming many — not all — of those challenges, but compared to the best RTS games on PC, where it also exists, its campaign missions are flat and unambitious, and its distinctive Blitz multiplayer mode sacrifices the stability of a level playing field in the name of fast and unpredictable action.
Seeing instantly recognizable vehicles like Warthogs and Banshees on the field adds an inherited personality to what is otherwise a fairly standard set of units. While there are substantial differences in tactics thanks to the unique Banished a rebel faction of the Covenant units like suicide grunts and airborne Blisterback artillery, the greatest distinction between them and the UNSC Marines comes from support powers like bombardments and buffs cast from above.
Each one does come with a range of side objectives such as keeping a specific unit alive, destroying extra bases within a time limit, or collecting resources from the map to give them replayability on top of simply turning up the difficulty, though.

To counter that, Blizzard will be making initial placements more conservative in future seasons “so that you receive a ranking that is more closely tied with where your MMR indicates you should be”.
